Ray West

Ray is a self-taught fine art artist living in Colchester, Essex, England. His favoured quality mediums to use are Fabre-Castell, Derwent & Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencils and Rembrandt soft pastels on Clairefontaine Pastelmat board. When painting pictures he spends many hours on each one aiming to capture the true character of the subject and show as much detail as possible.

He spent a career in the Investment industry before reigniting his passion for art in 2020. He has learnt a great deal in the following years and believes he will always be learning and evolving as an artist. Most of his work to date could be deemed as realism, but he takes inspiration from a wide variety of sources and is keen to expand and explore a wider variety of styles before finding his final path. Much of his art time is taken up with commissions, which is great, but he does enjoy some quieter spells when he can create some more original work.
