Nicola Stratton Tyler
After completing my MA (Hons) in History of Art at Edinburgh University, I have spent more than 20 years as a Fine Art valuer working for Christie’s and Bonhams and more recently as an independent consultant.
Many years of studying works of art at first hand brings a strong knowledge of the history of painting to my work. I have been pursuing my own fine art practice, in various media, including sculpture, before concentrating full time on plein air oil painting and pastel sketching in 2019.
Having grown up on the rural Essex/ Suffolk borders I have spent my time observing and understanding the landscapes and seascapes of East Anglia. My style has been described as `contemporary impressionism’.
I was shortlisted for the Sir John Hurt Art Prize in 2019 and again in 2021 and a series of my pastel works have recently been purchased by The National Trust.
