Morris studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and the University of Reading during the 1960s, and has been exhibiting internationally since 1977. Her abstract paintings have evolved over the years through many influences and interests but an abiding preoccupation is how colour relationships can structure luminosity, and the way this opens up a fluctuating pictorial space.
Morris has taught in Departments of Fine Art across the UK, and was Senior Lecturer in painting at Chelsea College of Arts, University of Arts London until 2005. Her work is held in many public and private collections, including the Arts Council, British Council, Contemporary Art Society and Museum of Wales, Cardiff. She is an Artist-member of the charity APT, where she has her studio in Creekside, South London, and is a trustee of the charity Poetry London.
Mali Morris was elected a Royal Academician in 2010.
