Kay Marie Patterson

An accomplished artist with a diverse and rich background in various creative fields. She holds BA (Hons) in Art and Design from Colchester Institute and an International Baccalaureate in Art and Art History, underscoring her understanding of both practical and theoretical aspects of art.

Kay’s professional journey has taken her from working as a graphic designer in a busy studio to becoming a self-employed illustrator for a weekly BBC children’s publication.

Her talents extend to interior design and specialised paint effects, where she applied skills to both residential and commercial projects. Notably, her work earned a place on the 1st Cover Edition, archived in the British Library.

Kay’s work is traditional and contemporary, exploring light, shade and depth, creating images that come to life and emerge from the canvas. Inviting the viewer in and creating subjects that stand out.

More recently Kay has focused on painting alongside fellow artists in Therberton, this keeps her grounded and continually learning from her environment. This direct engagement with her surroundings fills her ongoing passion for art.

Kay is opening a new studio in Abberton, where she will continue to refine her craft by painting in oil from life.
