Katherine Lees
Born in Colchester, I earned a BA (Hons) degree in graphic design from Chelsea School of Art, and worked as an advertising art director in London for 15 years until I moved to Mistley two decades ago.
Since then, I have been continually developing my work in different directions and media. My paintings have been exhibited in Mistley, Aldeburgh, London and New York City. I was recently selected for the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition and shortlisted for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize, both at Mall Galleries, London.
I’ve just designed and published my fourth illustrated book: The Stour Estuary Colouring Book. One persistent theme in my work is making order out of chaos; whether this is an escape from reality, an arrival, or just my strong sense of design I’m not sure. But it drives me forward.
