Gail Porteous-Butler

Gail moved from Leavenheath to Colchester in 1997, but has actually lived in Essex for 45 years. She was brought up and educated in Surrey, where she lived with her mother. She went on to become a fashion model, travelling extensively and meeting many interesting people.

Painting had not been on her agenda since leaving school, but in 2008, she felt the need to express her feelings, taking up painting and writing.

She is basically self-taught, but is very fortunate to belong to a local art group where, over the years, she has benefited from the knowledge and expertise of some of the long-standing members.

Gail loves anything associated with nature. Flowers, birds and wild animals. Dogs also feature prominently in her work; over the years she has had a number of commissions for “Pets Portraits”.

Her paintings are strong, powerful, sensual… and finely detailed.
