Emma Wren

Emma Wren is a fine artist from Colchester. Primarily she works in watercolours but not necessarily in a conventional way. She uses the strong, vivid pigments in the watercolour medium to her full advantage, letting the colour flood and bleed, thus achieving some great textural effects. She never tires of the marks that can be achieved, the changes that can occur during the drying process and the way the different bindings interact in suspending the colours. It is like letting the medium come alive and do the work! Emma’s work ranges from large scale floral canvases, soft meadow flowers, watery abstracts to quirky animals, capturing their personalities and bringing them to life. Her mantra is: you shouldn’t be pigeon-holed into one style; go with your mood and just paint.

Emma achieved a BA honours degree from Winchester school of art before working in London as a Textile designer. Since moving to Colchester 11 years ago, she has focused on her painting full time and her work has sold to many collectors in the UK and worldwide.
